What is Due Diligence?
Due diligence is an audit or investigation conducted by a company or an investor in order to better understand the nature of the deal, the risks involved and whether the investment fits the investor’s portfolio. Essentially, the due diligence process is doing your “homework” to make sure that all aspects of the investment have been considered. Ultimately, the due diligence process should identify any environmental, social and governance red flags that could compromise the investment. Companies will also need to undergo the due diligence process in order to identify any issues within their organization, identify any risks and opportunities and as best as possible try mitigate any issues. Identifying these issues/red flags through the due diligence process will far outweigh the loss of investment and resources.
